Reports: Multiple injuries after shooting in downtown Carbondale
CARBONDALE - Several people were being taken to hospitals late Friday after a shooting in an alley between the ABC Liquor Mart and Tres Hombres in downtown Carbondale, not far from the Southern Illinois University campus, according to the Southern Illinoisan newspaper.
Carbondale police confirmed there had been a shooting with multiple victims, and that more information would be coming later.
According to the Southern, police scanner traffic around 10 p.m. reported at least two people had been shot, possibly more, on the 100 block of North Washington Street.
On the scene, police tape covered most of the east side of the block. A car sat in the alley between the ABC Liquor Mart and Tres Hombres, with broken glass on the pavement beneath it.
Eyewitnesses told the Southern they had heard multiple gunshots, and that a man in a gray hoodie with black pants was seen running away from the scene after the shooting.
