Baseball: Moe, Grayslake Central shut down Lakes

Coby Moe tossed a complete-game 4-hitter in leading Grayslake Central's baseball team to a 5-1 victory over host Lakes in Northern Lake County Conference action Thursday.

Moe fanned 10 and walked one in helping the Rams improve to 9-2 and 4-1 in the NLCC. Grayslake Central batted around in a 4-run second inning thanks to hits from Kevin O'Brien, Joey Webster and Daniel Rogers.

"Tough hitting conditions for both teams with the wind blowing in, and both pitchers had command," Rams coach Troy Whalen said. "We were able to get a few hits in one inning, and Coby made it stand up from there. He really attacked hitters with his stuff today, and that was great to see."

Libertyville 23, Notre Dame 14: Garrison Bennett, Andrew Kim and Ben Lopez homered for the host Wildcats, who pounded out 23 hits and scored 10 runs in the second inning of the nonconference game.

Sam Paden was 4-for-4 with a triple and 4 RBI for Libertyville (6-7), and Derek Calamari went 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Bennett (4 RBI) and Lopez (2 RBI) both finished 2-for-3. The Wildcats' other contributors included Dylan Drumke (2-for-3, double), Cole Fiorenza (2-for-2, double, 2 RBI), Tanner Kelly (2-for-3, double) and Jack Henry Turco (double).

Wauconda 4, Grayslake North 1: Clark Morgan pitched a complete game, allowing just 4 hits with 5 strikeouts in the Northern Lake County Conference contest.

Wauconda (5-7, 2-3) got a pair of hits from Camden Janik, and Anthony Bonk went 1-for-3 with a big RBI.

Grant 8, Round Lake 2: The Bulldogs improved to 10-3 with the Northern Lake County Conference win, as Mason Sekulich earned the victory.

Henry Kusiak was 2-for-3 with a 2-run homer, double and 3 RBI. Mikal Ashley went 2-for-3 with a 2-run homer and 2 RBI.

Warren 1, Antioch 0: Max McCullough had the game-winning RBI, as the Blue Devils improved to 13-2 with the nonconference win.

Brian Rapanan pitched 5⅔ innings in earning the win, and Dru Jasnoch threw the final 1⅓ innings for the save.

Glenbrook South 20, Vernon Hills 2: The Cougars lost the Central Suburban League game in 5 innings.

Jake Morris was one of the few bright spots for Vernon Hills (7-5, 0-2), as he went 1-for-1 with an RBI.
