Aurora Navy League to learn about 'Reducing Deadly School Violence' April 16

On Tuesday, April 16, "Reducing Deadly School Violence" will be explored at the Aurora Navy League Council 247 dinner meeting at Grandma's Table Restaurant, 1700 Douglas Road, Montgomery.

The public is invited. After a 5:15 p.m. reception and dinner at 6 p.m., Kasia Wereszczynska, co-founder and clinical director of Counseling Speaks in Chicago, will detail behavioral health concerns and evidence-based preventive and intervention approaches to reduce school violence.

Dinner entrees include fish, chicken or beef with soup, salad, dinner rolls, vegetables, dessert and nonalcoholic drink. The cost is $21.

Counseling Speaks is a multicultural group practice serving the Chicago metropolitan area. Wereszczynska has more than 15 years of experience in crisis intervention, cognitive-behavioral therapy and positive psychology. She has worked in the mental health court system, hospital emergency rooms, community mental health agencies, schools and both inpatient/outpatient psychiatric hospital settings.

Wereszczynska earned a master's degree from the Illinois School of Psychology, Argosy University in Chicago and serves on the Chi Sigma Iota International Counselor Community Engagement Committee, Illinois Diversity in Leadership Task Force Committee and the Argosy University Chicago Counselor Education advisory board. She is past president of both the Chicago Counseling Association and the Illinois Association of Multicultural Counseling.

Additionally, she teaches psychology classes at Oakton Community College and has taught at the University of St. Francis and the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. She has lectured in the U.S. Poland, Italy, Canada, Switzerland, Greece and Hungary.
