Baseball: Cary-Grove blanks Huntley, wins series

Jack Wenninger held Huntley to a hit and 3 walks and struck out five as Cary-Grove won the decisive third game of a Fox Valley Conference series 15-0 in five innings in Cary Tuesday.

Leadoff man Dymitri Kanellakis doubled, tripled, drove in 5 and scored 3 runs to lead the offense for Cary-Grove (8-3, 2-1).

Eli Paplanus absorbed the loss for the Red Raiders (10-4, 4-2), who committed 7 errors that led to 6 unearned runs.

Crystal Lake South 5, Hampshire 2: Jacob Bimbi (4⅓⅔ innings, 3 hits, 9 strikeouts) and Nick DiBenedetto threw a combined 4-hitter to win the rubber game of the Fox Valley Conference series. Bimbi, Ian Gorken and Evan Jewson doubled for CL South (7-3, 3-3). Losing pitcher Anthony Dimarzio and Benjamin Benoit each threw 3 innings for Hampshire (6-5, 1-4).

Aurora Central Catholic 7, Wheaton Academy 4: Alex Rakas and Tommy Musuras each belted 2-run home runs and Matt Jeter had 2 hits and 2 RBI as ACC (12-5, 3-1) evened a Metro Suburban Red series against Wheaton Academy (9-5, 3-1). Reliever Max Martin notched the win.

West Aurora 13, Bartlett 2: Jake Smith pitched a 6-hitter with no walks and 7 strikeouts and Graham Rachow went 4-for-5 with 4 RBI to help the Blackhawks (8-4, 4-2) sweep the 3-game Upstate Eight series. Nathan Gargano took the loss for Bartlett (4-3-1, 3-3).

South Elgin 9, Elgin 2: Ben Hetelle went 3-for-4 with a home run and 4 RBI and winning pitcher Griffen Allen was the first of five pitchers used by South Elgin (7-2, 5-1) in an Upstate Eight win. Jon Palmer took the loss for Elgin (0-9, 0-6).

Wheaton Warrenville South 9, Geneva 7: The Tigers snapped 6-6 tie with 3 runs in the top of the sixth to secure the DuKane Conference win. Reliever Mike Klazura took the loss for Geneva (7-4-1, 1-1).

St. Charles North 3, Wheaton North 0: Tristan Cazel threw a 1-hit shutout with 6 walks and 6 strikeouts and Patrick Bellock drove in 2 runs to lift St. Charles North (7-4, 2-0) in DuKane Conference action.

St. Charles East 10, Glenbard North 0: Alec Rupp blanked the Panthers for 5 innings on 2 hits and no walks and struck out six. Leadoff man Clay Conn had 2 hits, including a triple, walked and scored 3 runs for St. Charles East (7-1-1, 2-0).

Harvest Christian Academy 15, Westminster Christian 0: Brock Wilken doubled, homered and drive in 5 runs to lead Harvest Christian (8-2, 5-0) in a Northeastern Athletic Conference game at Westminster Christian (1-3, 1-2).

McHenry 15, Jacobs 10: Kyle Washington hit 2 home runs and drove in 5 runs and Andrew Balkcom and Christian Scianna also went deep in a losing cause for Jacobs (5-7, 2-3) in Fox Valley Conference play.

Burlington Central 15, Woodstock 7: Senior catcher Colton Wallace hit 2 home runs and drove in 4 and Cody Carlson homered and drove in 3 to lead a 15-hit barrage for Burlington Central (6-5, 3-1) in the Kishwaukee River Conference.

Streamwood 12, Glenbard South 10: Colin Bielinski (3 RBI), Justin Gonazalez, Tyler Jones and AJ Reyna each doubled as part of a 15-hit afternoon for the Sabres in the Upstate Eight. Anthony Caruso earned the win for Streamwood (5-5, 3-3).

St. Edward 13, Timothy Christian 3: Drew Tilche struck out 8 in 5 scoreless innings and Mike Lopez went 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI to lead St. Edward (5-7, 3-1) to its fourth straight win.

Morris 11, Kaneland 10: The Knights allowed a walk-off solo home run. Nic Panico (3-for-4) and Dalton Askew hit home runs for Kaneland (8-6, 1-1).
