Dog rescued from burning Grayslake home

Firefighters rescued a dog trapped in a burning Grayslake home Tuesday afternoon.

Grayslake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Jim Weidman said neighbors saw smoke pouring from the roof of a home on the 400 block of Rock Hall Circle and called 9-1-1 Tuesday afternoon.

At 12:51 p.m., firefighters pulled up at the scene, where neighbors told them the family had a dog that was still inside the house, Weidman said. Firefighters found the dog in a cage on the first floor of the two-story home. The owners were not home when the fire started.

Fire crews fought the blaze and were able to mostly contain it to the attic, Weidman said. He said the fire damage and subsequent water damage to the home was bad enough that the family will be displaced for a while.

Weidman said most of the firefighters left the scene by about 2:50 p.m. He said investigators were at the scene until around 5 p.m. and were not yet able to determine the cause of the fire.

The Grayslake Fire Protection District was aided at the scene by fire departments from Gurnee and Round Lake, Weidman said.
