Girls soccer: Ludolph's hat trick leads Vernon Hills
Alex Ludolph scored 3 goals to lead Vernon Hills' girls soccer team to a 6-1 win over Antioch in nonconference action Tuesday.
Madelyn Woodrow, Julia Neary and Jessie Biede also scored for the Cougars (3-4-2), who were tied 1-1 at halftime. Gill Johnson, Marley Reback, Abby Kempf and Brynn Ziemke had assists.
"In the first half we did not play the way we wanted to play," Vernon Hills coach Mike McCaulou said. "It was too direct. In the second half we had confidence on the ball and stuck to the game plan. We created some nice chances and scored some Antioch's goal came from Carolyn Monaco, assisted by Kacey Meltzer.
"The girls played really well, and applied pressure in the first half and early in the second half," Sequoits coach James Silasiri said.
Lake Zurich 3, Lakes 0: Rachel Krueger, Cassidy Johnston and Riya Shah scored for the Bears in the nonconference match.
Haley Brousseau, and Ashleigh Stanovich had assists, and Paige Grossenbacher made 4 saves in net to earn the shutout for Lake Zurich (3-4-1).
Glenbrook North 4, Grayslake Central 1: Victoria Medina scored on a penalty kick for the Rams' only goal in the nonconference match.
Grayslake Central drops to 2-4.
Warren 2, Maine West 1: Emma Preda's second-half goal was the difference for the Blue Devils.
Warren's first goal was scored by Cate Cullison assisted by Courtney Chomko. Preda scored with the assist from Morgan Liebau.
Sarah Barbosa had 2 saves in goal for Warren (3-4-1), which will play the winner of Lincoln-Way East and Crystal Lake South on Thursday for the championship of the "Showdown for Charity" portion of the Pepsico Showdown.
