Second annual Fox River Arts Ramble returns April 13-14

Fox River Arts, a collaborative group seeking to promote arts and culture in the Fox River Valley, will hold its second annual Fox River Arts Ramble, a two-day self-guided arts tour featuring numerous arts-related locations from Aurora to Elgin.

The Ramble, a collaborative effort of the Fine Line Creative Arts Center, the St. Charles Arts Council and Water Street Studios, is coming to the Fox Valley from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14, with some musical performances and receptions in the evening.

The Ramble features multiple artistic disciplines at sites across Aurora, Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles and Elgin, including open studios, galleries, art schools, museums, public art venues/tours and creative spaces.

A one-day event in its first year, this year's event has been expanded to two days to give participants more time to tour nearly 50 participants at approximately 40 locations. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet a diverse group of artists, see their work, and tour public and private spaces that breed creativity.

A Ramble brochure and map is available, enabling visitors to select the locations that are of greatest interest and plan their route for the weekend ahead of time. More detailed information on each Ramble participant can be found by visiting foxriverarts.com.

The three organizations making up the steering committee - the Fine Line Creative Arts Center, the St. Charles Arts Council, and Water Street Studios - will all provide headquarters for the weekend. In addition to extensive arts offerings, the headquarters will have additional maps, refreshments and restrooms available for use.

Last year's inaugural event was well received with visitors attending from all over - a testament to the richness of the arts in the Fox Valley. For more information, including details about each participants' program, visit the FRAR's website, foxriverarts.com.

Student Art Pop-Up Gallery Show

The St. Charles Arts Council's featured event in the Fox River Arts Ramble is the Student Art Pop-Up Gallery Show, which opens for the Ramble at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13 at Keep Creative, 220 N. 4th St., St. Charles.

The opening reception is that evening from 5 to 7 p.m. Appetizers and beverages will be served. The show will be open through April 20.

The St. Charles Arts Council's Annual Student Show is part of the SCAC's signature Pop-Up Gallery program, which temporarily transforms nontraditional spaces into new art venues.

This show includes the juried artwork - visual and video - of 48 students in kindergarten through college. It features 2D and 3-D visual art (including painting, sculpture, and photography) and video art, from students throughout the region.

Tom Anderson of Colonial Café has pledged a cash donation plus $1 for every person who attends the gallery.
