Softball: Palatine rolls past Meadows

Palatine senior catcher Anna Selleck reached a school record 700th putout and the Pirates' softball team put up 17 hits in a 12-2 Mid-Suburban League crossover win at Rolling Meadows Monday.

Palatine (7-1, 1-0) won its seventh straight game.

"Being able to catch for a bunch of amazing pitchers over the past four years has been amazing," Selleck said. "Seven hundred putouts is mind boggling to me and I'm so thankful to be a part of team that has allowed me to reach this milestone.

"I'm so excited for what the future holds for this team, and am blessed to finish my last year with Palatine softball on the field with my talented and amazing teammates."

"When you have a great player catching, sometimes people can forget the phenomenal job they're doing," said Pirates assistant coach Kristen Proffitt. "Anna has been fantastic for us for four straight years. She always puts us in a position to win."

Freshman Kelly Beach (2-0) got the win (4 strikeouts) and Rhiann Dick the save.

Grace Huff (2-for-2, 2 homers, 3 walks, 4 RBI), Emily Parrott (4-for-4, home run, triple, 2 RBI) and Amanda Stanczuk (3-for-5, double, 4 RBI) led the offense.

"I am so proud of Anna (Selleck)," Huff said. "She does so much for this team and we are so grateful for her."

"Being able to play alongside Grace Huff for a long time has been amazing," Selleck said. "All the hard work she puts into softball has made her a great player and overall person. I'm so happy for her and I'm very excited to see how much more she accomplishes."

Stephanie Thompson (1-for-2, 2 RBI) and Samantha Elenz (1-for-2) led the offense for Meadows (4-4, 0-1).

Elk Grove 14, Conant 2: AJ Trausch (2-for-3, 6 RBI, 3 runs) belted 2 homers, including a grand slam to lead the host Grens (7-1, 1-0) in the MSL crossover.

Grens junior Lauren Clausen fired a 2-hitter with 7 strikeouts while other top hitters for EG were Olivia Masnica (2-for-4, 2 RBI, home run), Jamie Klicka (3-for-3), Morgan Leach (2-for-3, double) and Brooke Baldassarre (double).

Shortstop Ali Falcone hit a homer for Conant (0-7, 0-1) and Kristen Lovas had the Cougars' other hit.

Barrington 10, Buffalo Grove 3: Senior Kendall Peterson went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI as the visiting Fillies (7-1, 1-0) won their MSL crossover.

Senior Barbara Covek (7-1) notched the win by tossing a 3-hitter with a season-high 11 strikeouts and no walks.

Other top hitters for the Fillies were Caroline Huttinger (3-for-3, 3 RBI) and Brynn Nevers (2-for-5, 2 RBI).

Megan Fontanetta, Sam Hansen (2 RBI) and Kimberly Stuercke (1 RBI) had the hits for the Bison (3-3, 0-1).

Schaumburg 14, Wheeling 0 (5 inn): Senior Tiffani Rudnick went 2-for-2 with 3 runs, a triple and double as the visiting Saxons (4-6, 1-0) won their fourth straight game.

Freshman Morgan Miller got the win in the MSL crossover, tossing a 6-hitter with 6 strikeouts. Other top hitters for the Saxons were Abbie Greenberg (3-for-3, 3 runs, 2 RBI), Talia Torosian (2-for-4, 2 runs) and Marisa Vodicka (2-for-3, 2 RBI).

Nikki Ferraro, Nikki Niznik, Emmie LaCaeyse, Peyton LaCaeyse, Danni Moser and Lexi Blumka had the hits for Wheeling (2-3, 0-1).

Prospect 5, Hoffman 5: The host Knights and Hawks were tied 5-5 in the top of the 12th when the game had to be suspended due to darkness and will be continued at a later date.

Multiple hitters for Prospect (2-3) were Kathryn Keehn (2-for-5, double), Cassie Cunniff (4-for-6, triple), Amanda Pinter (3-for-5), Emalee Depa (2-for-5, 2 doubles), Katie Annen (3-for-5) and Madeline Borkowski (double).

Ryan Cloherty (2-for-5) led Hoffman Estates (0-6) which received a triple from Gracie Velasquez.

Claire Doherty had 20 strikeouts in 11 innings for Prospect while Hoffman's Emily Grossi also went all 11 innings with 2 strikeouts.

Leyden 11, Maine West 1: Emma Bertsche threw a 4-hitter with 6 strikeouts for Leyden (8-3) in the nonconference game.

Leading the Eagles' offense were Yaritza Frias (2-for-4, 2 runs), Tara Mackey (2-for-4 2 runs), Elle Engelke (3-for-4, 3 runs, 3 RBI) and Kailey Kirkwood (double).

Maine West (5-7) got hits from Brianna Torres, Brianna Magiczewski, Emily Divelbis and Jessica Steingard. Abby Gawlinski had 3 strikeouts.

Whitney Young 12, St. Viator 1: Nicole Ardito, Allison Ardito, Cece Kaiser and Cassidy Gibson had the hits for host St. Viator (3-6) in the nonconference game. Mary Naughton and Morgan Joyce each had 3 strikeouts.
