Carol Stream Rotary collecting for food pantries

The Rotary Club of Carol Stream will collect nonperishable food and nonfood items needed by local pantries through Friday, April 26, at locations throughout the village as part of its 10th annual community food drive.

Among the most needed items are condiments and cooking aids; boxes of rice; canned soups, meats and fruits; healthy cereal; powdered and evaporated milk; laundry detergent; diapers sizes 3-5; shampoo; soap; feminine products; and toilet paper.

In the weeks leading to the drive, residents can donate items to designated collection bins at the following locations:

• Carol Stream village hall;

• Carol Stream Park District locations;

• Community Consolidated School District 93 schools;

• Glenbard North High School;

• Benjamin Elementary District 25 schools;

• Carol Stream Public Library;

• Windsor Park Retirement Community;

• Bartel's Auto;

• College of DuPage Carol Stream Center;

• Rockin' Jump;

• St. Andrew United Methodist Church.

Additionally, many residents will receive donation bags on their door handles between April 14 and 20 with instructions for making donations from home. Those who receive a bag are invited to follow the instructions to fill the bag and have it out for pickup from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27.

All items collected throughout the community will be brought to Glenbard North High School Saturday, April 27, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Donations will then be distributed to the Milton Township Food Pantry, Bloomingdale/Roselle Food Pantry, Interfaith Food Pantry, Neighborhood Food Pantry, Wayne Township Food Pantry, and Humanitarian Service Project to meet the needs of those served by these organizations.
