Baseball: Round Lake's Hill fans 15 against Maine East
Wyatt Hill struck out 15 batters in 6⅓ innings, and Round Lake's baseball team shut out host Maine East 4-0 in nonconference action Saturday for its second win of the season.
Hill allowed only 1 hit and 2 walks. He also went 3-for-3 at the plate, stole four bases, walked and scored twice. Jorge Contreras added a hit and an RBI.
Lakes 14, Zion-Benton 4: Winning pitcher Tim Clay tossed a five-inning complete game in nonconference action, allowing 1 earned run.
Lakes ws led offensively by Ethan Clark (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Jason Volpe (2 RBI, 2 walks), Logan Queen (double), Andrew Huissen (triple, 3 RBI) and Julian Carrillo (1-for-2, 3 RBI).
Antioch 10, Palatine 0: Austin Andrews pitched a five-inning complete game with 3 strikeouts and no walks, and Tyler Skutnik was 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and an RBI to lead the host Sequoits to the nonconference win.
Antioch also received a pair of hits each from Jack Gillespie (triple, RBI), Ethan Andrews and Caden Davis (double, 2 RBI). Sean Weiser contributed a double.
Grayslake Central 11, Niles North 1: Eric Sturm was 2-for-3 and 2 RBI, as the host Rams won the nonconference game in five inning.
Grayslake Central (7-2) also got 2 RBI apiece from Nic Presutti (1-for-2), Antonio Crews (0-for-1) and Daniel Guckenberger (1-for-2). Dylan Villareal, Jon Wondrasek, Paul Kula and Kevin O'Brien all doubled. Coby Moe pitched 2 shutout innings, striking out five.
Vernon Hills 4, Richmond-Burton 2: Winning pitcher Derek Jarrell improved to 3-0, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) in 5⅔ innings, and Caleb Thomson finished up for the save.
Josh Liu (1-for-3, 2 RBI), Ethan Bowers (2-for-3) and Danny Wizceb all doubled for host Vernon Hills, which for the second time this week faced an opponent it played in last year's state tournament.
Jarrell faced R-B ace Luke Uhwat.
"Both pitchers did a great job locating and keeping hitters off-balance," Cougars coach Jay Czarnecki said.
Wheaton Warrenville South 8, Stevenson 3: The visiting Patriots dropped the nonconference game despite a pair of doubles and 2 runs scored from Chris Farina.
Michael D'Angelo tripled for Stevenson, and Hayden Brotz doubled.
Crystal Lake Central 8, Mundelein 6: Drake Morton was 1-for-2 with a double and 3 RBI for the visiting Mustangs in their nonconference loss.
Michael Rastrelli went 2-for-3 for Mundelein.
Lane Tech 5, Grant 3: The Bulldogs spotted the visitors a 4-0 lead and couldn't recover in the nonconference game.
Grant (8-3) got 2-for-3 efforts from both Anthony Figueroa and Carlos Martinez (RBI).
