Girls soccer: Batavia ties Neuqua V. on Holcombe's goal

Trailing Neuqua Valley 1-0 late in the first half, Batavia's Grace Salyers headed in a corner kick by Anna Holcombe to tie the score.

Neither team scored in the second half, giving the Bulldogs a 1-1 tie.

Goalie Hailey Flannagan made 3 saves in the first half for Batavia (6-1-2) and Aubrey Hahn had 3 saves in the second half. Jenna Nichols, Taylor Fleury and Kate Schoenfelder led the effort by Batavia's defenders.

Burlington Central 0, Schaumburg 0: The Rockets (2-3-1) settled for a tie in their final game at St. Charles East's tournament. Kyla Butler made 6 saves in the fifth-place matchup.

Cary-Grove 3, Bartlett 2: Also at St. Charles East, the Trojans (4-1-1) came out on top in the third-place matchup. Cary-Grove scored twice in the second half to break a 1-1 tie.

Avery Nielsen scored the first two goals, both assisted by Kailyn Sheehan. Cailtin Scopa tallied the final goal unassisted.

Mckenna Sheehan made 5 saves.

PepsiCo Showdown: Elgin (4-6) started play in PepsiCo tournament with a 3-0 win over Crystal Lake South. The Maroons built a 2-0 halftime lead when Guadalupe Sanchez scored on an assist by Morelia González, and then Evelyn Sanchez found the back of the net assisted by González.

Nathalia Garfias (Evelyn Sanchez) tallied the final goal. Joana Mercado made 13 saves.

Also in the tournament, Huntley played Fenwick to a 0-0 tie in regulation, then won 4-1 on penalty kicks. Alyssa Xanos, Braidy Ceh, Taylor Kaufman and Avery Fitzgerald made the penalty kicks for Huntley (3-3-2). Alexis Kozak (1 save) and Jenna Franklin (3 saves, 1 in penalties) split time in goal.
