Aurora man charged with desecrating grave
An Aurora man has been charged with desecrating human remains, accused of digging up an old grave in the West Aurora Cemetery.
Cemetery workers reported seeing a man digging up a grave Thursday in the cemetery at 607 Wilder St.
Jeremy Rivers, 33, told them he was moving the body at the request of relatives, according to police. When they challenged him, he left.
The grave is that of a Victoria E. Vittetow, who was born in 1866, police said.
Police said it does not appear Rivers removed any of the remains, although her body had been disturbed. They said Rivers gave no explanation and they don't know what, if any, connection there may be between Rivers and the gravesite.
Desecrating human remains is a felony.
