Lawyer charged in alleged investment scheme pleads guilty

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - A lawyer who formerly worked in northern Indiana and was charged with scamming elderly investors has pleaded guilty to some charges in the case.

The South Bend Tribune reports Eric Marshall entered the pleas Thursday in federal court to one count of mail fraud and one count of securities fraud related to one client he allegedly defrauded. If the plea is accepted he could be sentenced July 18. He maintains his innocence on other charges.

Marshall, formerly of South Bend and also known as Sven Eric Marshall, was arrested in January in Clearwater, Florida. The 61-year-old earlier was ordered to repay more than $2.5 million to clients.

The U.S. attorney's office has said he ran an elder abuse scam through an investment company. He's awaiting trial on other charges.
