Naperville police to host third annual Victim Services Information Fair April 10

The Naperville Police Department is hosting its third annual Victim Services Information Fair from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 10, at North Central College's Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. in Naperville.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, three million Americans are victims of violence each year. This information fair is designed to raise awareness about crime victims' rights and services.

Participating organizations in the past have included the Victim Service Units and Children Advocacy Centers of both DuPage and Will counties, Department of Homeland Security, Office of the Illinois Attorney General, Adult Protective Services, Mutual Ground, Family Shelter Service, National Alliance for Mental Illness, and more.

Attendees will also be able to gather resources from such agencies as the Federal Trade Commission, IRS and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, among others.

In addition, two programs will be offered in the concert hall auditorium.

At 9 a.m., several organizations will join as a panel to offer information on sexual assault response for victims. This panel will include Elmhurst Hospital SANE Nurse Kerry O'Conner; YWCA Metro Chicago Sexual Assault Advocate Colleen Zavodny; Assistance DuPage County State's Attorney Jim Scaliatine; and Naperville Police Department Detective Paul Elliott.

The presenters will discuss their individual roles and interactions with survivors of sexual assault, as well as their collaboration through the life cycle of a sexual assault case.

At 10:30 a.m., National Center for Missing and Exploited Children will present their program, Team Adam, which is their rapid, on-site assistance to law enforcement agencies and families in serious cases of missing children.

For professionals, YWCA Metro Chicago is sponsoring 2.5 free CEU's for LCSWs for attendance to the presentations.
