Public encouraged to line funeral procession for fallen Illinois state trooper
The public is encouraged to line the streets Friday during a funeral procession to honor Illinois State Trooper Gerald Ellis, who was killed last weekend.
Ellis died March 30 when Dan Davies, 44, of Calumet City, was driving in the wrong direction in the westbound lanes of I-94 and slammed into Ellis' squad car near Green Oaks, east of Libertyville, authorities said. Ellis, an Antioch resident, was 36.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Friday at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake.
The funeral procession route will start at the performing arts center about noon.
It will exit the college and make a right on Lancer Road; then east, or left, on Brae Loch Road; south, or right, on Route 45; east, or left, on Route 120; exit right on Route 21; left on Route 21; left onto I-94 west; exit I-94 on Russell Road; left on Old Skokie Road; stay left onto Route 41; west, or right, on Route 173; south, or left, on Deep Lake Road; and west, or right, on Route 132. The procession will end at routes 132 and 83.
The interment services will be private.
Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts.
