Authorities: Speed a factor in fatal Lake Forest crash

Speed was a factor in a crash on Route 41 in Lake Forest that left one person dead and three others injured, authorities said.

A preliminary examination shows the 4-door Buick sedan was driving over the 45 mph speed limit in the northbound lanes about 3:45 a.m. March 29 when it drove off the right shoulder near Westleigh Road, authorities said.

The road near the crash turns sharply to curve underneath a railroad viaduct.

The car drove straight at the turn and hit trees before coming to a stop on a steep embankment, authorities said.

Front passenger Sierra Riley, 20, of Zion, died in the crash, authorities said. Hisani Wright, 21, of Grayslake, was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was treated and released.

The driver and a fourth passenger remain hospitalized due to injuries they received, authorities said.

Lake Forest Police are continuing a criminal investigation of the crash with help from the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and the Lake County Coroner's Office.
