Softball: Libertyville's Page shuts out Warren
Amanda Page outdueled Caitlyn Britton, as Libertyville's softball team edged defending North Suburban Conference champ Warren 1-0 in Gurnee on Tuesday.
It was the NSC opener for both teams.
Page (4-2) allowed just 2 hits, struck out four and walked four.
Britton gave up just 3 hits, struck out six and walked one. Sarah Bennett, Emma Fields and Ella Zombolo were all 1-for-3 for Libertyville. Fields scored the game's only run in the fifth.
"Our team did a great job of working out of some jams on defense and playing all 21 outs," Wildcats coach Elissa Wisniewski said.
Ashlyn Kitter and Kayla Hopkins had Warren's hits.
Carmel 16, Fremd 6: Jordan Swiatkowski hit a pair of 3-run homers, as the Corsairs won the nonconference game.
Swiatkowski also walked twice, while her sister Hailie Swiatkowski went 4-for-5 with 3 runs scored. Julia Shrofe was 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI, and Sydney Schuda allowed 3 earned runs in 6 innings.
Lake Zurich 18, Lake Forest 0: Haley Gajewski homered and drove in 4 runs, as the Bears improved to 2-0 in the North Suburban Conference.
Elizabeth Chialdikas (2 RBI) and Megan Croke tripled for Lake Zurich, and Nina Kolb doubled.
Maura Ginn earned the win.
Antioch 13, Round Lake 1: The host Sequoits stole 10 bases and drew 8 walks in winning their Northern Lake County Conference opener.
Antioch (2-0) got 2 hits apiece from Megan Lawrence (RBI), Abby Pyburn (triple, RBI), Hailey Webb (2 RBI) and Faith Miller (2 RBI). Piper Foote walked three times and stole three bases. Ashlyn Sundell and Lawrence each had 2 stolen bases. Jeri Bonaguidi pitched to a five-inning complete game, allowing 4 hits and 2 walks, while striking out seven.
Round Lake's Sydney Verastegui was 3-for-3 with a homer.
Grant 12, Wauconda 0: Becca Fabry homered and drove in 4 runs, Liz Schram and Frances Williams each had 3 hits including a double, and Grant won the Northern Lake County Conference opener in five innings.
Grant got 2-for-3 efforts from Calista Warmowski (2 doubles), Fabry and Gabby Rogalevich (2 RBI). Megan Mitchell hit a solo homer, Sarah Gallivan doubled, and Miranda Rodriguez had a double and 2 RBI. Juliana Reynolds earned the win, allowing 3 hits in a complete-game effort.
Wauconda got a double from freshman Zehra Hussain.
