Softball: Gardner's 4-hit day sparks Burlington Central
Reili Gardner had a busy day at the plate in Burlington Central's 12-2 win over Harvard on Tuesday, smacking 4 hits in the Rockets' (4-1) victory. Gardner singled in the first, second, third and sixth innings. Abigail Sanders was the winning pitcher throwing a 4-inning shutout on 1 hit and striking out six.
Schaumburg 15, Elgin 0: The Maroons (0-2) struggled on both sides of the ball, dropping a nonconference game to Schaumburg on Tuesday afternoon. Aaliyah Morales took the loss, giving up 3 hits and 3 runs.
CL South 15, Belvidere North 3: The Gators (4-0) scored 8 runs in the first inning and never looked back. Brooke Kuffel and Alexis Pupillo led the onslaught with 2 hits each. Christina Toniolo earned the win, allowing just 1 hit and 2 runs in 4 innings, striking out five.
Yorkville 7, Hampshire 1: Alyssa Cork had 2 hits in 3 plate appearances to lead Hampshire (3-2). Katie Del Re took the loss, surrendering 7 runs on 10 hits in 6 innings.
Aurora Central Catholic 5, Ridgewood 0: Dani Brown threw a complete game shutout for the Chargers (11-1), racking up 14 strikeouts and giving up 5 hits and a walk. Isabel Gonzalez led the offense with 2 hits.
Cary-Grove 12, Buffalo Grove 9: The Trojans (2-2) ran off with the lead late in the game, trailing 9-8 in the top of the seventh inning when Katy Wierczorek doubled in 3 runs.
Emma Hill earned the victory lasting seven innings, allowing 9 runs and striking out 10.
Larkin 16, Hoffman Estates 6: The bats came alive in a big way for Larkin (1-1) led by a stellar day at the plate for Ashley Miller (4-for-4, double, triple, 3 RBI, 4 runs). Freshman Kailey Cronin earned the win.
Kaneland 10, Morris 0: Emilee Erickson threw a gem for Kaneland (6-1). Olivia Ortegel and Maddy Wheatley each had 2 hits to lead the Knights.
St. Edward 17, Timothy Christian 3: The bats were hot for St. Edward and Chloe Davis went the distance, throwing all 6 innings (1-0) to earn the win.
