Baseball: Streamwood edges West Aurora in extra innings

Connor Johnson enjoyed a memorable day on the mound and at the plate to help Streamwood nip visiting West Aurora 5-4 in eight innings Tuesday.

Johnson lined a two-out single to center field on a 3-2 count to score Scott Wolfard from third base for the walk-off win in the Upstate Eight. He finished with 3 hits.

Johnson also tossed the last 4 innings in relief of Colin Bielinski (5 strikeouts). Each pitcher allowed 2 runs, none earned. Wolfard and Anthony Caruso each managed 2 hits for Streamwood (4-2, 2-0).

West Aurora starting pitcher Jake Smith allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, all unearned due to 5 errors by the Blackhawks (4-4, 0-2). He struck out 4 and issued 2 walks.

Huntley 6, Belvidere North 0: Senior Davis Pasco pitched 5 scoreless innings in relief of starter Jimmy Fairley to lift host Huntley to a nonconference win. Pasco (2-0) limited the Blue Thunder to 2 hits, walked none and struck out 5. Zach Model finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and Jason Peters counted a double among his 2 hits for Huntley (7-2).

Naperville Central 7, Batavia 6: Patrick Boyer's walk-off single lifted the Redhawks to the nonconference win. Batavia (4-2) had tied the game in the top of the seventh inning on a bases-loaded walk by senior Brady King. Ryan Ingold absorbed the loss. Starting pitcher Brad Niedzwiedz allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits and 2 walks and struck out 8 in 5 innings. King and Carter Gette each drove in 2 runs for the Bulldogs.

Harvest Christian Academy 13, South Beloit 1: A 7-run third inning propelled Harvest Christian to the Northeastern Athletic Conference victory. Brock Wilken tripled and Grant Young, Gilbert Duran, and Jack Nohava doubled to lead the onslaught. Jack McMahon earned the win for Harvest Christian (5-2, 3-0) by limiting the Sobos to a run on one hit over 4 innings. He struck out five.

Aurora Central Catholic 10, Elmwood Park 0: Matt Jeter threw a shutout to lead Aurora Central (9-4) past Elmwood Park in the Metro Suburban Blue. A 9-run fourth inning that fueled the win included a walk by Tommy Musuras, a sacrifice fly from Alex Rakas, a fielder's choice by Danny Kuttner, and a Nathan Sundberg double.

Bishop McNamara 6, St. Edward 5: The Green Wave (1-6) nearly rallied from a 6 run deficit. St. Edward scored 2 runs in the fifth inning and 2 in the sixth via a double by Jack Olson in the fifth, a single by Drew Tilche in the fifth, a Sebastian Oquendo single in the sixth, and a Olson's sixth-inning single. Green Wave starting pitcher Mike Lopez lasted 5 innings, allowed 6 earned runs on 7 hits and struck out 4.

Metea Valley 2, Geneva 1: Metea Valley scored twice in the fifth inning to take the lead and held on to win in nonconference play. Nick Black led the offense with 2 hits, including a double. Blake Breon suffered the loss for Geneva (5-2-1).

Aurora Christian 5, ICCP 0: Hunter Thompson held the Knights to 3 hits in a complete-game shutout to propel Aurora Christian (6-0). Sam Tickel, Trey Madsen, Jake Kuntzendorf smacked 2 hits each to lead the Eagles at the plate.

Fenwick 15, Marmion 5: Marmion (3-3) struggled to put runs on the board and committed 3 errors. The Friars scored 9 runs in the sixth inning to end the game. Nick Talarico took the loss for the Cadets, allowing 4 hits and 6 runs over 3⅔ innings. He struck out three.

South Elgin 9, Glenbard South 4: Logan Romasanta's first-inning RBI double paced South Elgin's Upstate Eight win. Patrick Keaty and Austin Doty each had 2 hits to lead the offense for the Storm (3-1, 1-1). Robert Zagorski earned the win by limiting the Raiders to a run on 3 hits over 4 innings, striking out three.

Burlington Central 8, Marengo 4: Brayden Seyller went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, and Andrew Knowlton and Jake Jarvis each contributed 2 hits in 4 at-bats to lift the Rockets in Kishwaukee River Conference action. Zak Zuiker held the Indians to 3 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits and 4 walks in 5 innings and struck out 4 for Central (3-3, 2-0).

East Aurora 15, Elgin 5: The Tomcats broke open a 2-run game with a 5-run fourth inning and scored 6 more in the fifth to complete the Upstate Eight win. Johnny Villegas took the loss for the Maroons despite holding East Aurora (3-3, 1-) to 4 earned runs on 4 hits in 3 innings. Luis Pacheco went 3-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI for Elgin (0-4-1, 0-2).

Cary-Grove 7, Harlem 2: Winning pitcher Ethan Estes (2 earned runs, 5 hits) and Ryan Weaver (5 strikeouts) each tossed 3 innings and Jacob Duncan threw a scoreless seventh to lead the Trojans in nonconference play. Estes tripled and drove in 2 runs and Drew Stengren went 2-for-2 for Cary-Grove (5-2).

Nazareth Academy 8, Kaneland 6 (suspended): This nonconference game was halted with two outs in the top of the seventh in Maple Park. Two Kaneland pitchers were touched for 8 earned runs on 9 hits and 9 walks. Joe Born led the Knights (5-4) at the plate with 2 hits, including a home run, and 2 RBI.
