Two women killed after ending work shift

Three co-workers were sitting in a car in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood after finishing their shift at a Walmart store when gunfire erupted late Monday.

Two teenage women in the bronze Nissan sedan were killed and a teenage man was wounded after three men jumped out of a blue sedan and at least one of them opened fire, police say.

Brittani Rice, 18, and Senobia Brantley, 19, were shot shortly after 11:30 p.m. Monday in the 7700 block of South Eggleston. They were taken to St. Bernard Hospital where they were pronounced dead. A 19-year-old man in the Nissan suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

A spokesman said police don't think the killing involved gangs. Each woman was arrested last year in separate downtown shoplifting incidents, but they have no serious crimes in their backgrounds.
