Lake Zurich cops investigating attempted heist

Lake Zurich police are still investigating an attempted armed robbery at a gas station about 3 p.m. March 23, authorities said.

Police were called to the 400 block of South Rand Road after the man entered the gas station with a black handgun and demanded money, authorities said. The person behind the counter refused to give money to the offender, and he left the store after the clerk threatened to call police, authorities said. Police described the suspect as a black man about 24 years old, standing about 5-feet, 4-inches tall, with a muscular build and short black hair. He was wearing a brown T-shirt and gray athletic pants the day of the attempted armed robbery. People with information are asked to call the Lake Zurich police at (847) 719-1690.
