Des Plaines chamber highlights social impact

DES PLAINES - The Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce recently brought together more than 30 leaders of local nonprofit organizations for their first opportunity to discuss how each is currently working to have a positive impact on the community.

The group will continue meeting monthly to share information, hear expert speakers, and discover ways of working together to meet community needs. With the chamber's help, they also expect to establish a Volunteer/Sharing Bank consisting of people willing to give time/supplies to one or more nonprofit organizations.

Future meetings are scheduled on the third Wednesday of each month. The featured speaker on April 17, is Marne Deithorn, HR director of Rivers Casino, who will discuss The Positive Impact of Community Involvement.

The first "Social Impact" Resource Fair and Business After Hours is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Des Plaines Public Library. For more information on meetings and to preregister as an exhibitor, contact the Des Plaines Chamber, 847-824-4200 or visit dpchamber.com.
