Softball: South Elgin wins in Tennessee
Sophia Salazar threw six innings, allowing just 3 hits and an unearned run in South Elgin's 8-1 win over Bryant, Tenn., on Saturday.
Salazar struck out two and walked two. Casey Brennan, McKenna Eichholz and Kaylie Humes all had 2 hits. Eichholz homered and drove in 3 runs.
Huntley wins twice: The Red Raiders (3-0) rolled to 12-0 and 13-5 wins over Normal Community on Saturday.
Bri Bower threw a 2-hit shutout in the opener, striking out seven.
Teagan O'Rilley homered, Sofia Tenuta had 2 hits and Marley Reicher also had 2 hits with 3 runs and 2 stolen bases.
In the second game, Victoria Schulte went 3-for-3, Tenuta was 3-for-5 with a homer and 3 RBI, Micah Goodrich also homered and Lindsay Morgan added 2 hits.
Freshman Jori Heard won her first varsity game, striking out four.
Oak Park-River Forest 4, St. Charles East 1: Katie Arrambide took the loss for the Saints despite striking out 12 and walking none. It was a 1-1 game until Oak Park-River Forest scored 2 runs in the sixth inning.
Krista Sbarra drove in the only run for the Saints.
