Softball: South Elgin splits in Tennessee
South Elgin finished 1-1 on the day at the Tennessee Invitational. The Storm (1-2) dropped the first game to Floyd Central despite a solid outing for Sophia Salazar on the mound. Salazar allowed 4 hits and 2 runs over 6 innings, striking out five.
In the second game, South Elgin turned a tie game into a win with a 3-run seventh inning. The Storm racked up 11 hits as Casey Brennan, McKenna Eichholz and Geneva Pollman all managed multiple hits. Brennan led the offense with 3 hits. Pollman earned the win.
West Aurora 8, Rosary 7: West Aurora (1-0) hit three home runs, which was just enough to thwart a 5-run third inning comeback attempt by Rosary. Gab Drager hit a home run in the first inning and Kennedy Zies went deep in the first and fifth innings for the Blackhawks. Chloe Saltijeral and Emily Hurst led Rosary (1-0) with 2 hits each.
Fenton 15, Larkin 1: Audrina Escobar and Kathy Garcia each had 2 hits for Larkin (0-1) while Brynne Farnsworth added a double. Kailey Cronin took the loss for the Royals.
Cary-Grove 8, DeKalb 7: The Trojans (1-2) nearly let a 6-run lead slip away in the bottom of the seventh inning, but held on for the win. Emma Hill threw a complete game for Cary-Grove earning the win, and she also led the offense with 3 hits.
Dundee-Crown 8, Streamwood 3: Dundee-Crown (1-0) took the lead late. Caleigh Gertz earned the win for the Chargers, lasting 6 2/3 innings, allowing 10 hits and 3 runs while striking out eight. Taylyr Crocilla took the loss for Streamwood, surrendering 8 runs on 9 hits over 6 innings and striking out seven.
Alaina Azar, Hannah Gestrich and Megan Thompson all had multiple hits for Dundee-Crown. Streamwood (0-1) racked up 10 hits, including multiple hits from Corinne Angle, Tessa Freedman and Crocilla.
