Questions need answers on sports complex
Regarding the article, "Sports complex deemed feasible," about Gurnee building a youth sports complex: Have there been any traffic studies, as this will increase the traffic on Grand Avenue, Milwaukee Avenue. Washington Street and Route 120, which are fairly congested roads now. The article mentions anywhere from 47 to 53 events a year.
Have the home/property owners been asked about selling? Are they willing to sell?
What about the rainwater runoff. Where will this go?
What does Gurnee have against the environment? Once you clear cut the trees and remove the top soil, it is gone forever.
Would it be possible to build this somewhere else? Are the park district fields not usable?
They also want to add commercial and retail business. As you drive in Gurnee, there are plenty of empty strip malls around. What about the east side of Gurnee?
This reminds me of the line in the Joni Mitchell song Big Yellow Taxi, "they paved paradise and put up a parking lot."
Well, at least the mayor did admit that this project is about the money.
