Indiana base preparing for 90,000 to attend air show

BUNKER HILL, Ind. (AP) - Businesses near the Grissom Air Reserve Base in north central Indiana already are gearing up for its air show later this year.

The Kokomo Tribune reports that 90,000 people are anticipated to attend the Grissom Air and Space Expo the weekend of Sept. 7. It's free and open to the public. The last air show at the base drew about 60,000 people in 2003. This year's headliner will be the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team. The U.S. Army Golden Knights also will appear.

Doug Hays is a spokesman for the base's 434th Air Refueling Wing. He says the air show will have a major impact on the local economy and that many of the people who attend will be from out of town.
