LOCAL ROUNDUP: Rock Bridge baseball sweeps doubleheader in season debut

Rock Bridge baseball made its season debut Saturday with a doubleheader. The Bruins won both games, defeating Grain Valley in the first game 9-0 and Rolla in the second game 11-3.

Rock Bridge is back in action at 5 p.m. Tuesday against Smith-Cotton in Sedalia.

Rock Bridge boys tennis makes season debut at Deco Turf National Tournament

The Rock Bridge boys tennis team made its debut this weekend at the prestigious Deco Turf National Tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee. On Friday, the Bruins earned a pair of wins to advance Saturday's semifinals. Rock Bridge won its first match against Brookwood (Ga.) 7-2 and won its second match against Montgomery Bell (Tenn.) 8-1. On Saturday, the Bruins took on St. Andrews Academy from Florida but lost 6-3. In the third place match, Rock Bridge faced Hindsdale Central (Ill.) and earned the win.

Local track and field teams make debuts at COMO Kickoff

The Battle, Hickman and Rock Bridge track and field teams made their season debuts Saturday at the COMO Kickoff hosted at Rock Bridge High School. One of the biggest events of the day was the boys 100-meter high hurdles in which two of the top runners in the state competed against each other. In the race, Hickmans Cortney Watkins edged out Rock Bridges Martez Manuel.

MU mens in third at GCU Invitational

The Missouri mens golf team traveled to Phoenix, Arizona, this weekend to compete in the Grand Canyon University Invitational. Out of 18 teams, Missouri finished in third place at 8 under par.

The Tigers' highest placing golfer was sophomore Jamie Stewart, who finished third individually, shooting 7 under par.

Columbia College baseball defeats Park

Columbia College baseball knocked off Park University 11-1 on Saturday at Southern Boone High School. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead by plating eight runs in the first two innings.

With the win, the Cougars improved to 11-8. Up next, they face Park in doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Sunday at Southern Boone High School.

Columbia College lacrosse falls in close battle with Indiana Tech

The Columbia College lacrosse team had its second game of the season against third-ranked Indiana Tech on Saturday. The Cougars played well but lost 9-8.

With the loss, Columbia fell to 1-1 on the season. The Cougars will next play at 7 p.m. Saturday against Missouri Baptist in Columbia.

Columbia College track and field makes outdoor debut at CMU Invitational

The Columbia College track and field team made its outdoor season debut Saturday at the Central Methodist University Invitational. The mens team finished fifth with 63 points while the womens team finished sixth with 52 points.

The Cougars had two first-place finishers in junior Alex Fritz in the mens high jump (1.95 m) and freshman Taylor Luster in the womens pole vault (2.75 m).
