Endorsements: Bednar, Henderson, Gross, Garcia for Gail Borden Public Library District board
Four seats on the seven-member Gail Borden Public Library District board are up for grabs in the April 2 election.
Incumbents Jean Bednar, Tiffany Henderson, Herb Gross and Amanda Garcia are facing newcomer Winfried Cooper and previous library board member Randy Hopp.
The Elgin-based library district is facing the same issues as other districts, dealing with uncertain funding from the state while offering a variety of programs and services to remain relevant.
Board President Bednar says it's frustrating that residents are not aware of what the library has to offer.
That hasn't stopped the board from pushing for ways to add programs without overspending. Gail Borden, one of the largest library districts in the state, has managed to keep the budget in check.
Bednar has an eye on making sure the programs the library offers to the community don't exceed the funding.
Gross and Garcia have pushed for more classes and programs. Henderson, a Bartlett resident, is concerned with information and services getting to all edges of the district.
The ever-expanding library district - with two branch locations and a recently added bookmobile - will benefit from the experience and diversity of this current board. The makeup should remain the same.
We endorse Bednar, Henderson, Gross and Garcia for the Gail Borden Public Library District board.
