Waukegan man found guilty of first-degree murder
A Waukegan man was found guilty of killing a North Chicago man after an argument inside a bar in 2018.
Andre Jones, 35, of the 1700 block of Longview Road, was convicted of first-degree murder and faces 60 years in prison when he is sentenced by Judge Patricia Fix on May 22, Assistant Lake County State's Attorney Ken LaRue said.
Jones's $3 million bail was immediately revoked after the jury read the verdict Friday.
Jones was charged with the fatal shooting of Melvin DeVost II, 29, after the two had an argument in a tavern on the 2200 block of Green Bay Road in North Chicago.
After the argument was broken up, DeVost entered a vehicle as a passenger and Jones shot at the car, authorities said. One of the bullets fired at the vehicle struck DeVost, authorities said.
The driver tried to rush DeVost to a hospital, but the car broke down near Lewis Avenue and Catalpa Street in Waukegan, authorities said.
Jones was arrested two days after the shooting and has remained in Lake County jail since.
