Aurora driver hospitalized, charged with DUI after fatal crash into fire truck
A 34-year-old driver from Aurora was seriously injured and a 32-year-old passenger was killed after the vehicle hit the back of a stationary fire truck in the southwest suburbs around 3 a.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the Illinois State Police.
A red 2007 Chevrolet SUV was traveling north on I-57 just south of Kedzie when it ran into the firetruck, the release said.
The firetruck was assisting with a previous crash in the area and had its emergency lights on, according to the release. The driver of the firetruck was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Andrew Lee, a Chicago resident, was declared dead at the hospital, the release said. The driver, Matthew J. Cage, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, according to the release. Cage was charged with aggravated driving under the influence and is still in the hospital, the release said. No further information was available Monday.
