Huntley wins Fox Valley Conference indoor title

Hampshire senior Cameron Reedy, who missed most of his junior year with a stress fracture to his shin, is happy to be able to compete in his senior season pain free.

Reedy got an extra bonus at Tuesday's Fox Valley Conference Indoor Meet hosted by Huntley by winning the 400 dash in a clocking of 52.40.

Reedy edged Huntley's Chris Simek, who ran a 52.77, at the finish line.

"I was a distance runner, but because of the injury I am now running the 400, which is a shorter race," said Reedy. "I was feeling a little heavy at the end, But, I had enough to finish first. It is a really good feeling just to compete again."

Huntley, under the guidance of first-year coach Chris Maxedon, easily took the team title with 150 points.

Dundee-Crown was a distant second with 56 points.

"We had a lot of good performances," said Maxedon. "We scored in every event and broke some school and conference records. It was a good night."

First place finishers for the Red Raiders included Antonio Passarelli (60 dash, 7.16).

"A big component of my race is my start," said Passarelli. "My start has been a little shaky during the indoor season. It is something I work on in practice all the time. I love the shortness of the race and the competition within the conference."

Other individual champions for Huntley were Michael Benner (pole vault, 13-0); Zach Fitzgerald (long jump, 21-8) and Josh Guyer (triple jump, 42-11 ¼).

The Red Raiders, who didn't compete in the 1,600 relay because of injury, won the 3,200 relay with a time of 7:59.07.

Second place Dundee-Crown was paced by Jason Miller, who won the 200 in a time of 22.79.

"I have stayed consistent throughout the indoor season," said Miller. "I am improving my times every meet."

The Chargers also won the 800 relay in 1:32.94.

Jacobs, third with 48, received first place efforts in 2 individual events.

Tommy Subaric won the 60 hurdles in a time of 8.59.

"I got off to a really good start and was consistent throughout the entire race," said Subaric. "This race will give me plenty of confidence going into the outdoor season."

Zach Albrecht joined Subaric in the winners circle claiming the 1,600 in a time of 4:21.30.

Hampshire, fifth with 40 points and led by Reedy's first place finish in the 400, also finished first in the 1,600 relay (3:36.66).

Cary-Grove, paced by Jason Petko's first place effort in the shot put, were seventh with a score of 32 points.

Petko garnered first place accolades with a heave of 54-10 ¼.

"I got good pop and push and the shot was flying," said Petko. "I have been practicing hard on my technique and I am ready for the outdoor season."

Crystal Lake South, ninth with 27 points, got second place efforts from Matt Brown (3,200) and Matt Reall (triple jump).
