Animal control takes custody of 10 dogs found in Vernon Hills home

Several dogs were found in a home during a police search Saturday morning, officials said.

Vernon Hills and Mundelein police found the dogs while serving a search warrant at about 9 a.m. on the 1000 block of Pine Grove Court, according to a news release from the Vernon Hills Police Department.

The dogs weren't related to the search warrant, the release said. Lake County Animal Control was contacted and took custody of 10 dogs for evaluation, the release said.

Vernon Hills police are investigating the circumstances to determine if charges are appropriate, the release said.
