Providence St. Mel, Chicago Orr claim state titles

Providence St. Mel got 15 points from Tyriel Nelson and 13 from Deion Jackson Saturday to defeat Cissna Park 52-29 in the Class 1A boys basketball state championship game at Carver Arena in Peoria.

Jason Mason added 9 points and 7 rebounds for the Knights, who finished the season 30-6.

It was St. Mel's second state title. The Knights won the Class A crown in 1985.

Christian Stadeli led Cissna Park (32-5) with 11 points. The Timberwolves were playing in the school's first state championship game.

Moweaqua Central A&M 70, Concord Triopia 39: Central A&M (33-4) took third place in 1A, led by 24 points from Jacob Paradee and 19 points and 13 rebounds from Connor Heaton. It was the Raiders' first state trophy in boys basketball. Triopia (33-5), appearing in its first state final tournament, was led by 11 points from Garrett Snow.

Class 2A

Chicago Orr 50, Nashville 36: Sherif Kenney had 19 points to lead Orr (25-11) to its third-straight Class 2A title. Tujautae Williams and Greg Outlaw each added 10 points for the Spartans, who claimed their fifth state trophy since 2013 under head coach Louis Adams. Carson Parker scored 16 points and Bryson Bultman had 12 for Nashville (35-3).

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 75, Chicago Corliss 66 (OT): Ryland Holt scored 34 points and had 10 rebounds as GCMS took third place in Class 2A. The Falcons (32-2), who were making their first appearance in a state final tournament, also got 23 points and 9 rebounds from Bryce Barnes and 18 points from Connor Birky. Corliss (20-10), also a first-timer at state, was led by Dhashon Dyson (19 points), Mark Lewis Jr. (17 points) and Jadon Williams (13 points).
