Sheriff: Driver three times over alcohol limit at time of crash

A Wisconsin man was driving with a blood-alcohol level more than three times the legal limit when he was involved in an Oct. 13 crash near Lindenhurst that threw him from his vehicle and left him severely injured, authorities said Friday.

Alden R. Eggleston, 44, of the 100 block of Vassallo Lane, Union Grove, Wisconsin, turned himself in to the Lake County Sheriff's Office Friday to face two counts of driving under the influence, authorities said.

The charges, both Class A misdemeanors, allege Eggleston was driving under the influence on southbound Route 45 north of West Grass Lake Road at about 1:15 a.m. Oct. 13 when his 2003 Dodge Caravan crossed into the northbound lanes, drove off the east side of the roadway and into a ditch. The Dodge rolled over and the Eggleston was ejected, police said.

Eggleston a $1,000 bond Friday and will be free pending an April 10 court date.
