One hospitalized in Grayslake home fire

Fire rendered a home in north-central Grayslake uninhabitable and one of the homeowners had to be hospitalized Tuesday afternoon.

Grayslake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Mike Rutkowski said that the fire started in the rear of the home in the 0-100 block of Whispering Oaks Lane at around 3:15 p.m. He said a husband and wife were at home when the fire started and that the woman had to be rushed to a hospital because she became overexerted.

Rutkowski said the fire spread up the side of the home and onto the second floor. Fire crews fought the fire both outside and inside for around an hour until it was under control at around 4:11 p.m.

Rutkowski said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. He said they were assisted by seven or eight other fire departments.
