Teams Place First at Annual Middle School Math Competition
Woodland Middle School students were among more than 170 seventh and eighth grade students from 17 local junior high and middle schools who participated in Carmel Catholic High School's 30th annual mathematics competition on Saturday, February 23.
The purpose of the event held in Mundelein is to highlight middle school students who excel in mathematics and challenge them to a fun competition with neighboring schools.
Woodland Middle School had one seventh grade team and one eighth grade team. Altogether, the 10 students ended up taking home five trophies. Both the seventh grade team and the eighth grade team won first place in their respective categories. In addition to the team trophies, three students earned individual trophies.
Seventh grade team members were Megan Vanhoof, Jahnavi Kolli, Tyler Terronez, Evan Myhre and Jake Jurkacek. Eighth grade team members were Liam Hickey, Eunice Kim, Kenith Taukolo, Benjamin Isaac and Maxine Eloian.
Individual winners were Liam Hickey, first place overall for eighth grade; Megan Vanhoof, third place overall for seventh graders and Evan Myhre, fourth place overall for seventh graders.
