Batavia library program relives the Space Race of the '60s

As part of this year's One Book, One Batavia program, "The Space Race" will be presented at 7 p.m. Monday, March 11, at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave.

Let's relive the Space Race! In the 1960s, the U.S. and the Soviet Union were locked in a race to send men to the Moon.

How did it all begin? How did the Soviets try to beat the Americans?

And, what happened to the Soviet effort after Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the Moon in July 1969?

Presenter Michelle Nichols is the director of public observing at the Adler Planetarium and a Jet Propulsion Laboratory ambassador.

Registration is required for this One Book, One Batavia program.

Register online at www.BataviaPublicLibrary.org or by calling the library Reference Desk, (630) 879-1393, ext. 200.

One Book, One Batavia is an annual community-wide reading program presented by the Batavia Public Library in cooperation with Batavia High School and co-sponsored by the Friends of the Batavia Public Library.
