Schaumburg students get writing tips from acclaimed author
As part of their annual "Our School, Our Story" program, students at Collins Elementary School in Schaumburg have been reading "The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street," the tale of a large family coming together to win over a grump landlord forcing them out of their home.
Who better then to cap off the reading program Monday than the author herself, Karina Yan Glaser?
Glaser visited Collins on Monday to discuss her story, autograph copies of the book and host a pair of writer's workshops teaching students how to write authentic, multifaceted characters.
Later Monday night, Glaser visited the school for its "Our School, Our Story Night" where she, students and parents took part in activities and visited various stations related to the book.
