Housing advocates plan Arlington Heights meeting
Reclaim Northwest Suburbs will host three speakers discussing affordable housing in the suburbs next weekend at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library.
The event, "Income Inequality: A Focus on Affordable Housing," is scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 9, in the second-floor Hendrickson Room. Speakers include Mark Hellner, executive director of the Center for Disabilities and Elder Law and a member of the village's housing commission; Jonathan Rapp, HOPE Center manager at JOURNEYS The Road Home; and Deborah Underwood, a consultant on parliamentary procedure and immediate past president of the Illinois Association of Parliamentarians.
Organizers say they will talk about the need for affordable housing in the suburbs, explain who is involved in determining it, and focus on the role of local government, community resources, developers and residents in the process.
