Endorsements: Paluch, Johnson and Lendi for Sugar Grove village board

Six candidates are seeking three seats up for election on the Sugar Grove village board April 2.

On the ballot are incumbents Dave Paluch, Mari Melson Johnson, Heidi Lendi and challenger Alex Kline Wedeen. Also running as write-in candidates are Jennifer Konen and Ryan Walter, who, along with Lendi, are endorsed by the group Independents for Sugar Grove Trustee.

The proposed Crown Development plan at the intersections of I-88 and Route 47 was the impetus for the creation of the group. The development, which would have brought in primarily warehouses and distribution centers, was widely opposed by residents of Sugar Grove, and Crown Development withdrew its request to build on that location.

The current board members all had their doubts about the scale of the project and preferred a modified version of it. All also agree that it could have been communicated better to the residents of Sugar Grove.

Challenger Alex Kline-Wedeen admits he has not been to a board meeting but has read the minutes. We feel that if you want to be on the board, you should at least attend a meeting or two.

Moving forward, the current board members who are running for re-election, Paluch, Johnson and Lendi, have a good vision for Sugar Grove and are endorsed.
