Martinsville police chief charged with theft, misconduct

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Indiana State Police say a central Indiana police chief has been charged with theft and official misconduct.

Police say a special judge signed an arrest warrant Wednesday for Martinsville Police Chief Matthew D. Long. They say Long surrendered to detectives Wednesday afternoon at the Morgan County Jail, where he bonded out to face impending court appearances.

The Morgan County Prosecutor's Office asked state police and the Indiana State Board of Accounts to investigate criminal allegations against Long last month. The findings of that investigation were taken to a special prosecutor, and probable cause was found for the issuance of an arrest warrant.

Additional details about the allegations against Long were not released.

A message seeking comment from Long was left at the police department.
