Aurora man found guilty of firing gun during domestic dispute
An Aurora man who shot a gun during a domestic dispute in 2017 has been found guilty, authorities say.
A jury found Juan E. Caballero, 26, of the 1100 block of Burgundy Lane, guilty Tuesday of unlawful possession of a firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm.
At trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Caballero went to the victim's house and got into an argument with a resident over allegations of domestic abuse. Caballero then pulled his car out of the lot, fired a handgun into the air toward the house and people in the front yard before driving away, authorities said.
Caballero's next court appearance is set for April 25, when he could be sentenced to three to 14 years in prison, authorities said.
"Jealousy, domestic violence and guns are usually a recipe for disaster, and we're lucky someone wasn't seriously injured or killed," Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon said in a news release. "This defendant is a convicted felon, should never have had a gun in the first place and should pay a severe penalty for his
crimes."
