Real Sociedad and Girona play to 0-0 in Spanish league

MADRID (AP) - Real Sociedad drew with Girona 0-0 in the Spanish league on Monday to remain unbeaten this year.

It was the 10th match in a row without a loss for the Basque Country team in all competitions. It is eighth in the league standings, two points from the final Europa league spot.

Girona was trying to keep momentum from a 2-1 win against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium last weekend, a result that halted its 13-game winless streak in all competitions.

The Catalan club stayed 15th in the 20-team standings after the home draw against Real Sociedad, five points above the relegation zone.

Real Sociedad hosts second-placed Atletico Madrid in the next round, while Girona visits second-to-last-place Rayo Vallecano.

Barcelona has a seven-point lead over Atletico ahead of its match against third-place Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Saturday. Madrid is nine points off the lead.
