Endorsement: Majikes, Bisesi, Sanoica for Rolling Meadows City Council

Elections for alderman in three wards in Rolling Meadows are contested. In each case, we think the voters have tough calls to make — more good candidates than seats available.

In the 3rd Ward, we endorse incumbent Laura Majikes. She's knowledgeable, hardworking and productive, an advocate for transparency. Recognizing the intense public interest in the proposed moves of the fire stations, she proposed listening to the electorate by putting the issue up for referendum,

Park Board President Kevin O'Brien is articulate and thoughtful, a worthy opponent, and it's hard to pass on his candidacy, but we favor Majikes.

We like retired city employee Deborah Banach's enthusiasm but we encourage her to seek an appointed committee post to gain experience and added insight.

In the 5th Ward, we endorse Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman Jon Bisesi in a close call over former Alderman Glenn Adams. Both have extensive records of civic involvement and it's hard to choose between them, but we opt for Bisesi primarily because of the priority he puts on working together and actively listening to the public.

Park district employee Joe Szafran offers laudable independent views but we would encourage him too to seek an appointed committee post.

The race in the 6th Ward may be the toughest call of all. We think a lot of incumbent Robert Williams, appointed alderman last July, but Lara Sanoica's perspective and energy would be a valuable asset on the council.

There aren't enough young people in elected office in Rolling Meadows — and in the suburbs in general, for that matter — and Sanoica would be a good and able addition.
