State medal eludes Wauconda bowler McKeel

Wauconda bowler Jasmine McKeel will have to wait another year to try to earn a state medal.

The junior fell a few pins short of achieving her goal on the final day of competition at Cherry Bowl in Rockford on Saturday.

McKeel started out strong with big games of 224 and 247 that got her into the eighth spot, but she rolled a 168 in her third game for a 639, dropping her into 14th place. She finished with games of 185, 190 and 169 for a 544. Her 2,404 pins over 12 games (two days) placed her in 21st place.

"I made a big movement over last year," McKeel said. "I'm happy with what I did this year. I wasn't getting a good carry (in the afternoon) and I had missed some spares in the last four games. I just couldn't put anything together."

Harlem's Rebecca Hagerman won the individual championship with a 2,670 total (222.8 average).

O'Fallon was the team champion with 12,122 pins, Harlem (12,024) was second, and Minooka (11,856) placed third.

Antioch started the day in 11th place and had slipped back to 12th (2,616) with games of 788, 969 and 869. The Sequoits couldn't make a move up the board in the afternoon. They finished with games of 966, 906 and 902 (2,774). Antioch's two-day total was 10,693 pins.

Lynn Michalec led the Sequoits with 2,309 (44th place). She had a 564 in the morning and a 577 in the afternoon (high game of 216).

Antioch's other contributors were Alyssa Tanner (2,187), Alyssa Olson (2,136), Kayla Tikovitsch (2,067) and Allison Kane (1,994).

Grant's Madeleine Cimo worked her way up to 51st place (2,295). She rolled a 561 over the first three games, which included a 223. She finished up by throwing games of 200, 223 and 181 for a 604 series.
