Learn about Kane County Forest Preserve restoration projects March 5

In 2017, the voters of Kane County approved a $50 million referendum for the Forest Preserve District of Kane County to protect new lands and fund restoration and access projects. Join Ben Haberthur, Director of Natural Resources, to hear about new lands that have been protected to date, new projects and grants that are underway.

He will illustrate how the Forest Preserve District of Kane County continues to protect our region's water, wildlife and way of life at the next meeting of the Elgin Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at the Hanover Township Izaak Walton Center, 899 Jay St. in Elgin.

The Elgin Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America is dedicated to defending soil, air, waters, and wildlife. The chapter, known as the "Elgin Ikes," was established in 1931. They volunteer their time to introduce youth and families to conservation, outdoor recreation, and land ethics by building nature trails, restoring stream banks, monitoring and "cleaning" creeks, planting trees, and eliminating invasive species. Starting in April, the lodge will again open its archery range.

The league also sponsors a Cub Pack and Boy Scout Troop. The lodge is at the confluence of Willow and Poplar creeks. Meetings and programs are held at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month.
