Mundelein's website may get a makeover

Mundelein officials are considering hiring a Minnesota technology firm to redesign the village's website.

During Monday's village board meeting, Steve Laner of Granicus Inc. proposed overhauling the site with a focus on engaging residents and creating a "modern digital government."

That would include giving site users opportunities to make electronic transactions and fill out electronic forms, Laner said.

"We're trying to create a service-centric approach to a website," said Laner, the firm's regional sales manager.

Granicus also would create a version of the site specifically for mobile devices rather than forcing people using smartphones and tablets to struggle through a scrunched version, Laner said.

A five-year contract is being considered and could be ready for a board vote Feb. 25, Village Administrator John Lobaito said. Terms weren't available Monday.

If a contract were approved, the work could take about five months, Laner said.

The village already uses Granicus software to create interactive, online versions of meeting agendas and livestream videos of board meetings. Those agendas and videos are linked with Granicus software, too.

"For example, when you want to review a specific agenda item after the meeting has been recorded, you can click on the item on the agenda and it will take you to that spot on the video," Lobaito said.

Mundelein's website last was significantly updated in 2014.
