Buffalo Grove HS students win police safe driving video contest
Arlington Heights police recognized a group of Buffalo Grove High School students Tuesday for producing a public service announcement to promote safe driving in the community.
The students were winners of the police department's inaugural Speed Awareness Video Education (SAVE) Challenge, in which students from four Northwest Suburban High School District 214 schools submitted videos for public voting online. Buffalo Grove finished with 48 percent of the 1,000 votes cast, beating out submissions from John Hersey and Wheeling high schools and The Academy at Forest View.
The winning entry features a voice-over of a student describing a day in which "everything was perfect" as she rode her bike through a residential neighborhood, until she was hit and killed by a speeding driver. To view the video, visit youtu.be/C49nuPN1-Is.
Arlington Heights police plan to use the video for traffic educational campaigns throughout the year.
