Troop 209 Scout earns Eagle rank

Palatine Troop 209 announced that Joshua Wenger has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Josh, currently a senior at Fremd High School, attended Pleasant Hill Elementary School and graduated from Plum Grove Junior High.

Josh has been an active Scout for 10 years, having begun his Scouting career as a Wolf when he first moved to Palatine. During his time in Scouting, Josh has not only learned to be a confident and able camper and outdoorsman, but also to be a leader and solid communicator.

His leadership and communication skills were put to the test when he planned and completed his Eagle project at the Heartland Animal Shelter in Northbrook this past summer.

Josh's project consisted of building an agility ramp for the shelter, as well as repainting existing agility equipment, refinishing exterior furniture, providing a decorative yard item, installing flower boxes and planting them. This project was particularly fulfilling for Josh, as he intends to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.

Josh has served in numerous leadership roles while a member of Troop 209. He was an assistant patrol leader and then patrol leader. While patrol leader, he began honing his communication skills as he learned the difficulty of pulling together a monthly patrol meeting that would work for the schedules of a good number of Scouts.

He moved into a role as quartermaster and was inspired after one term to run for the lead quartermaster position. Josh was a fabulous example of a successful quartermaster.

Josh was fortunate to be able to experience two high adventure trips while a Scout, spending time at Florida Seabase and at Northern Tier. Josh also enjoyed great experiences at the Boy Scout National Jamboree in 2017.
