Carol Stream honors top citizens

Carol Stream officials recently named their Citizen of the Year Award winners.

The honorees are village residents who have volunteered their time in one or more community groups during the past year.

• Citizen of the Year Female: Patti Schwartz, nominated by St. Luke's Parish.

• Citizen of the Year Male: Bill Keen, nominated by the Carol Stream Police Department.

Special Citizen of the Year Award winners are village residents who have volunteered for five straight years in the community.

The winners (and the organization that nominated them) are as follows:

• Special Citizen of the Year Female: Maria Gillette, nominated by Girls Scouts of Greater Chicago.

• Special Citizen of the Year Male: William Bonnema, nominated by the Carol Stream Park District.

The Judges Recognition Award is presented to a person living outside Carol Stream who has provided exemplary volunteer service in the village. This year's winner was Debra Cartwright, nominated by the Carol Stream Rotary Club.

The awards were presented at a banquet at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites, 150 S. Gary Ave. in Carol Stream.
